Animation studios &

Animation Studios:

For the time being I'm only listing links to anime studios with an English page, because the ones that don't aren't too helpful to those who can't read or access the code to display the Japanese text. In no way do I wish leave out these other studios, as I have linked to artist sites in Japanese, but ironically those sites have far more to view, generally, in images than the studio sites have to offer. I'm sure the Japanese only sites will soon have English versions to offer due to the rising level of popularity anime is experiencing in the west.

Gainax: If you are savvy in the knowledge of anime then you already know who they are; if you're not then you should get to know their work. Probably one of the most influential studios in the buisness of animation today. Founded upon the creation of the seminal anime masterpiece "Wings of Honneamise" since then they have continued to produce industry shaking work, "Otaku No Video", "Gunbuster", and of course the mesmorizing "Neon Genesis Evangelion". Their next feature film is called "URU", providing it's still slated for production.

Production I.G. are responsible for the moody anime incarnation of Masamune Shirow's cyberpunk manga epic "Ghost in the Shell". The home of anime maestro Mamoru Oshii, Production I.G. has completed some masterworks of animation in its short history since 1987. "Patlabor 2 the Movie" is arguably one of the greatest animated films Japan has to offer and these are the folks who made it. The upcoming film "Jin-roh" is reported to be just as fantastic. I.G. has also worked with Gainax on several projects including Neon Genesis Evangelion the TV series and also handeling a great deal of the work on the films "Evangelion: Death", "Air", and "End of Evangelion".

The homepage of Yoshitoshi Abe, character designer for Lain and Niea_7. Abe's work is very distinct and his Painter illustrations are masterful indeed. If you've seen his Lain collection art book 'An Omnipresence in Wired' than you know his Painter skills are impressive. Go check his site out and have a look at some of his works.

Anime Resources:

The Anime Web Turnpike

Without a doubt, the quintessential anime resource link. This page has it all. Extensive listings of all things anime.

Nausicaa.Net & The Hayao MIYAZAKI Web

Wonderful site detailing the works of master animator Hayayo Miyazaki. Nausicaa.net is maintained by the not-for-profit fan organization Team Ghiblink. All things Ghibli (Miyazaki's animation studio) are here. The best place to keep up on the works of this prolific filmaker.

Own a DVD player? Then what are you waiting for? Just head on over to this site and jump on in. The coolest DVD anime orientated site on the net. Anime Chris does a great job of maintaining this site and moderating the Anime on DVD message board. The message board here are some of the most civil you'll find. Support this site and support DVD, it's the only game in town for video viewing, as far as I'm concerned.

Nikaku Animart is the main store I've been getting my anime film books since I was a young upstart. I always found them to be well stocked and quite reliable with orders. Many of the books featured in the Recommendations section are available here or at Anime Nation below.

Big ass anime store. Quite a lot to offer here. You looking for that super keen anime film book? Here's a place to look for it. They also carry a great deal of videos and DVDs.
