Akira: Yamagata & Kaneda
Well,
what can be said? Everyone's seen it. The seminal cyber punk classic,
one hell of a great film, and a masterpiece of a manga. I did this
piece, for fun, back in 89. It was for a t-shirt, of which Gene
Stairwell and I still have. For those of you who recognize that
Otomo did that shot of Kaneda on the bike illustration originally
indeed you are correct, but no I did not trace it. When I was young
I tried my hand at emmulating my favorite artists style just to
see if I could do it. I guess my attention to detail is a little
obsessive. I threw Yamagata in there to make the piece more my own.
I only did a few pieces like this and never attempted or had any
intention of making profit from it. Ultmately do original works
kids.
