This one was simply to be a Miyazaki-like air fortress, per Dave Z's instructions. I went for a heavy WWII feel for this aircraft as well with a little WWI air craft design influence as well. I'm sure Mr. Miyazaki is quite well versed in WWII aircraft design, No?
